The fear of the world ending is ancient. It crosses boundaries of space and time, recurs in all human communities and finds expression in every aspect of cultural production – from pre-historic cave paintings to high-tech computer games [Pweter W Evans].
In 2012 the media were reporting about different eschatological beliefs according to which a cataclysm would occur around 21st December [Wikipedia]. But thank God, we are still alive. The impending end of the Mayan calendar no more leads to a catastrophe than the turning of the old kilometer/mile counter from 99999 back to zero represents the last kilometre/mile of your car.
In the past, our region was famous for its parties as well as rich social and cultural life. The capitalist myth partially destroyed the authenticity of our region. We gained nothing, not even glory. Yet I believe that the last month of 2012 was a new beginning. A sunrise, a new opportunity for my hometown - a Beginning of the Glorious period, represented by the mosaic.
